Nazi photographer Hugo Jaeger took a portfolio of pictures in the newly-established ghetto of Kutno, Poland. We cannot be sure whether his motive was callousness, compassion, or mere curiosity. Genie was a feral child who spent the first 13 years of her life locked inside her bedroom. She was a victim of one of the most severe cases of social isolation ever documented. Discovered by LA authorities in 1970, she was never able to grasp language or the concept of grammar, generating evidence for the 'critical period' theory (meaning a child need to be exposed to language in their early years to learn how to speak).
