Not triumphal, victory over death, hence Victories in spandrels and eagle carrying snake skyward. Also Erotes, chariots, and bull skulls = funerary but triumphal over death.
238 AD- The Amphitheatre of El Jem is built in the Roman province of Africa Proconsulare (modern Tunisia). It will survive as one of the best preserved Roman stone ruins, & one of the biggest amphitheatres in the world.
