Persimmon Bread. Got on the Food Network site, originally from From the New Orleans Time Picayune. Makes 2 loaves and freezes well. This is absolute perfection! The only changes I made were to leave out the nuts and to use 1/2 tsp powdered ginger instead of the cloves and allspice. Also, mine was done in 55 minutes. Much easier than the James Beard recipe and just as good!
When I was a little girl, my sweet Portuguese Grandmother used to make these moist and delicious cookies for my two brothers and me. We always looked forward to eating them, and it was such a special treat. To this day when I bake these cookies the wonderful aroma brings me right back to grandma's kitchen. Such fond memories that I will always treasure.
