A collection of photographs taken almost 40 years apart show how London's streets have changed. In 1973, civil servant John Hutchinson photographed areas in London which were under threat of redevelopment. He feared the Victorian buildings that had survived the Blitz would be lost forever, so he set out to photograph them for posterity.

LT railways Metropolitan steam - MikeMorant

Metropolitan Railway 'B' class 4-4-0T no. 41 was built by Beyer Peacock in 1869 and was one of only five that were taken into London Transport stock in July 1933. Here we see no. 41 in Met livery and with a cab at Neasden but the negative isn't dated. Withdrawal came in 1936.

LT railways Red Panniers - MikeMorant

Former GWR Collett designed 5700 class 0-6-0PT no. 7779 is depicted here at London Transport's Neasden mpd during its extended lease of life as LT no. L93. Built in 1930 by Armstronjg Whitworth, 7779 was bought by LT in October 1958 and was withdrawn in December 1967. Scrapping was on site in September 1968. Also identifiable in this shot are pannier tank no. L95 and Metropolitan Railway 'E' class 0-4-4T no. L48 which would be withdrawn in 1963.
