Established in 1894, this could possibly the be one of the smallest and oldest Post Office in use today. Located in Berkeley County, Pinopolis is about 35 miles from Charleston, South Carolina, and is a peninsula of the Cooper River. Pineopolis has two historic districts listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The village served as a shelter for refugees during the Civil War. Instead of the annex on the south side of the building, shown in the picture, there was an outside stairway in 1896 when it was used by the county.
