While inhabiting Sungir, at least 5 of the site's occupants died. According to Russian anthropologists these included a 60 year-old man, a 13 year-old boy, a 7 to 9 year-old girl. The 2 adolescents & the adult male were buried in 2 shallow graves 3 metres apart, dug into the permafrost beneath an abandoned dwelling.
