The Daniel Plan
You may be thinking that biblical meditation is a difficult skill to develop, but you actually already know how to do it if you know how to worry! When you take a fear or a problem or a negative thought and think about it over and over, that’s called worry. When you take a verse of Scripture and think about it over and over, that’s called biblical meditation.

God’s Word gives us life-changing truth, but we must read it, study it, memorize it, meditate on it, and then practice it.

Often our lives can become too complicated, and we may need to let go of some of the baggage that weighs us down, both in our spiritual lives and our journey toward health. We need to eliminate detours like envy, bitterness, jealousy, and comparison with others. We need to simplify our schedules so that we can live with vitality, enjoying God and life-giving movement. We need a simple eating plan with pure foods. We need simplified goals to focus on.

Growth happens through a steady stream of little choices. If you want to eat in a better way, if you want to take care of your body and exercise more, it takes a series of small choices that add up to big results. You make small choices at every meal or every time you lace up your sneakers. The same thing is true with your soul. Spiritual health is built up day after day, experience after experience. That’s why the Bible so often uses the metaphor of a path to follow step by step.

Restful sleep gives us the energy to exercise. It sharpens our focus and helps us to make good choices about food. Jesus relaxed, and he offered his followers both physical and spiritual rest. If he didn’t sacrifice rest but offered it as a gift, shouldn’t we accept that gift? Turn to him for rest.

God doesn’t expect us to be perfect. In fact, he uses our failures to show us that we need him and to drive us into his arms of grace. There is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus! This means that no matter how bad you blow it in life or on The Daniel Plan, God will never condemn you. He not only wants you to succeed, but is also actively working with every setback to help you succeed.

Why did Jesus have to die? Because He alone was able to pay for your sins. You deserved punishment, but Jesus paid the penalty for you: “For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God” (1 Peter 3:18 NIV).

Everything that Jesus did for you He did out of love. The Bible says that God made you to love you. The only reason you’re alive is because you were made to be loved by God.

Jesus said, "I did not come to judge the world" (John 12:47). Have you accepted his forgiveness and salvation by faith? This is where the Faith Essential begins. You can't have the power of God in your life without Jesus in your life. It all starts with a relationship. Not rules. Not regulations. Not rituals. Not religion. It's all about a relationship to God through his Son, Jesus.

Pastor Warren teaches that goal setting, like prayer and spending time alone with God, is a spiritual discipline. In fact, goals can be an act of stewardship or worship where you say, “God, I want to make the most of what I’ve been given” or “God, I give you back the life you’ve given to me, and I want to go in your direction.”

The reason we eventually fail at all our good resolutions is because we don’t depend on God. You need willpower, but you also need more than that for a lifetime change. God says, “Don’t depend on your own power or strength, but on my Spirit” (Zechariah 4:6 CEV).
