I am so excited!!!!! I have been wishing lately that I had my grandmother's prune cake recipe, and while digging through my recipes, I found it! I don't even remember ever writing it down, but there it was! I'm so excited!!! I know, prune cake sounds disgusting old people food, right?! Well, let me tell you, this is SOOOOO...

PRUNE CAKE....this looks like the one they used to make in the lunchroom at school. Been looking for this forever and I think I may have found it!

Begin New Traditions, with Classic Desserts! My Grandmother Estelle used to make this cake for us when we were children. She would spend the afternoon reading to us, then make her way to her piano and sing her heart out! She taught us to "perform" for Mother and Daddy, which we were always anxious to do. This cake is very basic and captures the flavor and aroma of Grandmother's kitchen. Now I knew long ago that Darling would never even give this a "taste" if I told him…

Breakfast Prune Spice Cake, I think this is Aunt Annes recipe that calls for a jar of babyfood prunes

Breakfast Prune Spice Cake

Chopped prunes add moistness to this spiced breakfast cake. This cake was a favorite of mine as a child - probably because it meant I could have cake for breakfast!

Old Fashioned Prune Cake ( Just like my mama's,...except she used black walnuts instead of pecans )

This is a very moist and rich cake. A little troublesome, but well worth it!

Baby Food Plum Cake. Early 70's recipe. My mom made these every Christmas. They don't make plum baby food anymore, so you can sub applesauce, blueberry or prunes. I like to put nuts, craisins and raisins in.

Everyone was baking this cake in the 70s! Virginia Schimmel, my senior English teacher, my inspiration for becoming an English teacher, and later my mentor at Woodham High School in Pensacola, gave it to me. Not only is it delicious, but it's very special because of the person who shared it with me. Photo:

Prunella Cake was my favourite visiting Nanna as a child. I've lost her recipe or can't find it in mum's old cookbooks so will try this and see how it goes. The icing she used was a cream cheese frosting like carrot cake so will go with that.

I was fortunate enough to happen upon this recipe for my great-grandmother Iny’s Prune Cake a few years ago. Written by her frail, small hands, the recipe’s simplicity appealed to me. It's probably in my Top Five Recipes of all time. And it would make Grandma Iny so, so happy I’m sharing it with you.

I made this when my cousin wouldn't part with her recipe for prune cake, and none of the recipes I could find seemed to match the goodness of her baking. This is almost an exact replica, and for all I know could be exactly what she uses. You will find that this cake is a very old-fashioned quick bread that uses baby food to keep it moist and provide that extra burst of flavor. I am sure it will quickly become one of your favorites!
