Everyone’s hair is made up of keratin protein and pigment. Each of us has our unique mixture of the pigments, but there are a few factors that are always the same: The darker your hair, the more pigment it contains. When lightening your hair, the cool pigments are smaller molecules so they will be the first to go, while the warmer(gold and orange) tones are larger molecules, and there are many more of them so they always remain the longest.
