### Place Value Freebie

I created this place value set of worksheets for my kindergarten classroom. I hope you can find a use for it in your kindergarten class as well. The common core standard K.NBT is for students to work with numbers 11-19 to gain foundations for place value. This can be tricky for kids who are just learning to count one to one objects. I suggest practicing this with real objects like unifix cubes and doing a lot of hands on modeling before giving students these practice sheets. Click HERE to…

### Understanding Place Value with 15+ Activities

Number and Place Value are two Maths topics that I am constantly revising throughout the year - it may be a quick 5 minute game, or a whole lesson, but the importance of understanding place value can never be underestimated. When I am teaching these basic concepts I always have my High School Teacher Mum in my head saying "Primary teachers need to concentrate on the basics". A month or so ago I had an inspiring weekend - one idea lead to another idea which lead to more, and more and ta da…

### Place Value War

We've been working on place value around here this month, and it's been a lot of fun too. The kids caught on quite quickly, as normal, and we've been playing games to enforce what they've learned. One of our favorite games is The Place Value Game. Today, though, I taught the boys how to play Place Value War, which they found, "Totally smashing!" You'll need a deck of math cards, which are quite simple to make. Uno cards are AWESOME for turning into math decks. I'm not keen on ruining the Uno…
