Teaching coping skills is an extremely aspect of being a school counselor. There are so many instances when students (and sometimes adults) need reminders to use coping skills. One of my favorite ways to teach coping skills is through books and play! I like to teach, read and then let students try out different skills. Books can be really effective because it may not just be me reading the book. The teachers may decide to read them as well to reinforce what I’m teaching. Win-win!
