Great State Plates

I have always loved to travel and some of my favorite childhood memories include family vacations (aka road trips) with my dad at the wheel, mom as co-pilot, and my sisters and I packed in the backseat of the car chanting, are we there yet? We didn't fly anywhere back then, so we took advantage of every opportunity to stop at those silly tourist attractions, roadside parks, Holiday Inns and STUCKEY'S! Of course, dad always missed the exit and my sisters and I would laugh and laugh about how…

State Brochure

We are working on the locations that make NM interesting and unique. After reading and researching points of interest, including state and national parks and monuments, the students had to choose a required number of each to write about. A script was provided for developing writers, but strong writers were encouraged to use stronger voice in their writings. Landscape Inchies Part 1

I recently completed this project during a residency. I was working with Grade 4/5. They were studying 6 different regions of Canada so we completed 6 inchies to represent these. They then chose their favourite 3 and these were mounted on a 1"x 6" board that was cut into a 12" length. I love collections. I'm always looking to pull student work together into a collection. Here are the other 3. Inchie posts always have a lot of pictures so I'm going to do this in 2 parts. The 'how to' for the…

Happy Canada Day! Books & Activities

Happy Canada Day to my fellow Canadian bloggers! I decided to check out Amazon and see if they had any great books about Canada for kids (it's part of our Grade 1 curriculum). I came across these sweet books ~ a series by the author Per-Henrik Gurth. I am definitely going to be buying them! Click on the pic to see the series And then I found this book, which is also going on my Amazon wish list. It's a take-off on Goodnight Moon. Click book to see on Amazon When we study the symbols of…
