The Shambles, a preserved medieval street in York, North Yorkshire. One of the oldest streets in Europe, dating back to the 14th century. Having never been extended to accommodate cars, The Shambles has retained its picturesque medieval shape. The timber-framed Tudor buildings house tea rooms, taverns and souvenir shops and project onto the upper levels, a medieval building technique used to create additional living space.
