Georg Kolbe (Germany 1877-1947), Porträtmaske Mechthilde Lichnowsky, clay(?), 1909-16. In 1909 Kolbe was invited to Castle Graetz in Silesia to portray the royal couple Max Karl and Mechtilde von Lichnowsky. Kolbe’s decision to abruptly end the top of the bust may reflect Mechtilde von Lichnowsky’s trip to Egypt and her interest in Egyptian portrait heads. Collection Georg Kolbe Museum, Berlin.
