Imperial Tsarevich Egg with surprise, Russia (1912; made by the House of Fabergé; lapis lazuli, gold, platinum, diamonds, watercolor on ivory; stand not original). Gift of Emperor Nicholas II to wife and Empress Consort Alexandra Feodorovna. The surprise is a portrait of Tsarevich Alexei in a Russian double-headed Imperial eagle frame. The egg and surprise honors Alexei, who was in fragile health due to hemophilia.
