Comrades of misfortune A German soldier captured in the Portuguese sector, possibly during a trench raid. On the original it is written: Saint-Venant, 1917 (9éme, so probably September). The Portuguese soldier has no unit markings, but given his footwear, he probably belonged to a cavalry or field artillery unit. He is also wearing what I believe to be a military police’s belt and a pre-war Portuguese ammo pouch. The grey tunic is (possibly) the 1913 Portuguese model with the front buttons…
