A radical, left wing socialist of the late 1800s, Rosa left her mark on both German and Polish politics, unusual for a woman of her time. Her last known words, written on the evening of her murder, were about her belief in the people and the inevitability of revolution: [You say] 'Order reigns in Berlin!' You stupid henchmen! Your 'order' is built on sand. Tomorrow the revolution will raise itself with a rattle and announce with fanfare, to your terror: I was, I am, I shall be!"
