Passion for Fashion
The upcoming Kerry Taylor auction, Passion for Fashion, has a few (not many) items of interest to the 18th century researcher. One in particular is a remade c 1780s cotton gown. Plain and simple, no ruffles or flourishes ( the sleeve ruffles look like late add ons). This simple gown has a very pretty fabric. Currant brown is copied from a mid-18th century resist dye.
Kaprifol is copied from a mid 18th century lining. This reproduction is a true block print.
Nypon Red c. 1750 is copied from a printed fabric at the Chester Historical Society. The original fabric was made into a pocket.
Ling is copied from an early 17th century woodblock print. This reproduction cotton is a true block print.
