This is a fabulous medieval silver wedding ring, dating to the 15th - early 16th century A.D. The ring is beautifully designed as two rings joined as one, with the clasped (fede) hands each holding a heart. The shoulders are decorated with stylized 'gillyflowers' again symbolic of blossoming love and betrothal. Medieval lovers gave each other rings, and rings were used to mark betrothals and weddings, but among surviving rings it is impossible today to distinguish these different uses.
