Medieval 'Pelican in her Piety' Harness Pendant Copper-alloy, grams, mm. A cast copper-alloy heraldic pendant in the form of a heater shield bearing a long-legged bird with its right foot raised.

This jewel is 'The Pelican in her Piety pendand' (about 1550-75). The pelican feeding her young with blood from her breast is a symbol of Christ. It was associated with Elizabeth as mother of her nation and the queen owned several pelican jewels set with rubies or garnets.
