Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog Breed Information and Pictures
The Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog is independent, protective, and territorial. Loving with their family and all people they know well but can be reserved with strangers (this would include strange children). Socialize them well preferably at a young age. The Catahoula is not recommended for an owner who does not take the pack leader issue seriously.
Did you know the Catahoula Leopard Dog is one of the few breeds that are native to the United States? It originated in Louisiana and its history is quite unique. When settlers arrived in what is now the United States, the only domesticated animals they found were the dogs that belonged to Native Americans. When the Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto arrived in the 16th century, he brought his own war dogs, which began breeding with the native species. The result was the Catahoula Leopard Dog!
