Gingerbread Sign | Gingerbread Sign | By Creating Through Chaos | Hey everybody it's Janice with Creating Through Chaos and today we're going to start this project off with this five by five piece of wood that I got from Michael's and they were only a dollar so it's such a good deal and I am going to paint all of the edges with this light paint color I ended up doing the back of mine with a brown also you can do that you don't have to do that I didn't do it on camera because I get people who complain that I take too much time painting the back of my projects on camera so I figured I'll just leave that out and do it myself after. So, I just did the edges and then I had these four circles and I picked four different sizes and I'm going to paint those with the color territorial beige and I gave them each two coats and made sure that I got all of the edges of those also and then I'm going to let all of this dry. Once it was dry, I'm going to add some rick rack to these circles. So, I took one the big one and the smaller one and I put a the Rick Rack on the top and then in a circle and I'm going to put the Rick Rack on the top of this other bigger one and then I'm just going to cut off the edges and I'm just using Aileen's tacky glue. I think I got that at Dollar Tree and then I'm going to do the other one in the circle also. So, I'm just going to put a bit of glue around the circle and as you can tell we're making gingerbread man and if you remember seeing my snowman sign this is going to be kind of like that I'm just going to wrap that Rick Rack all the way around. I got this really tiny Rick Rack from Hobby Lobby. It's so cute. So I'm going to let those dry. Let that glue dry while we scrapbook paper the wood that we just did. So I'm going to lay that down on my scrapbook paper. And I don't remember where I got the scrapbook paper. I can't remember if it was Hobby Lobby or Joanne's. Those are the only two places that I buy scrapbook paper. Because Michael's never seems to have it on sale. So I'm just going to cut that size and then mod podge that on and I thought this paper was perfect for a gingerbread theme with the candy and I love that pink that's why I painted the edges pink so that when I sand off the excess of this paper you won't see the plain wood you'll see just the pink coming through I get a lot of questions that ask why I paint under my scrapbook paper and that is the answer And I'm going to let that dry while we work back on the gingerbread man. I'm just smoothing it out and making sure that it's on there well. And next I'm going to take a paint brush and I'm going to dry brush some red on each of the cheeks. So it's kind of like in a circle motion around on the edge of each one of the cheeks. And I'm even going to do it on this little teen tiny one. Just a little bit. Just kind of dab it in there. On either side and now they have little rosy cheeks. Next, I'm going to take this stylus that I got at Dollar Tree and I use this thing for everything. I'm going to give each one of them some black eyes. That sounds funny and I'm just going to dab it in the paint and then I just dab it onto the gingerbread man. And I put them kind of close together but just a little bit apart. And I'm just doing this with the pointy end of that stylus. Next, I'm going to flip the stylus over to the bigger end of it and I'm going to dip that in some red paint and I'm just going to kind of make an oval in red underneath each one of the eyes. So, that's going to be their little nose. So, just kind of go around with an oval using the stylus to make your shape. It's kind of dragging the paint out. It's going around like in a little oval. Making sure that they're all even and how cute are they already next I'm going to take a marker and I'm just going to draw a simple line for a mouth you can use a paint brush you could use a paint pen I just happen to have this on hand you want to make sure that whatever you use is you know not washable so it won't come off so make sure that's permanent and I just wanted a thin line then I'm going to take that stylus again and just put a dot of white on each one of the little red rosy cheek parts And look how cute these are turning out. I think they're absolutely adorable. Next I'm going to take some paint on a paint brush and just splatter white all over them. Kinda give it the illusion of snow and icing. Just making sure that I get it good. It's kind of hard to see on camera. Next, I am going to put some enchanted shimmer around the edges of the sign just on the pink and I did it on the back. As you can see, my back is brown. Just kind of go around the whole thing. Give it a shimmery look. And now we're going to add our gingerbread faces to the front of the sign. So I'm just going to kind of set them where I want. And then just hot glue them on. And I kind of staggered them. Just like I did with the snowman. And if you've missed the snowman video that is in my videos. And add this final one. And how cute is this. I think this turned out so super cute. Next I'm going to add two little bows to the ones that I put the rick rack around the whole thing. And they're just little red bows. I ripped them off of another ornament. And look at that. Oh my goodness. I think this turned out so super cute. It was so easy and so much fun to make and I think it's going to match my gingerbread kitchen so perfectly. Thank you guys for watching. Hope this inspires you to make one and as always don't forget to spread the chaos.
