The Respect Bees Have For Holy Icons

By Monk Simon In the region of Kapandriti near Athens, a wonderful thing happens. Ten years ago, a devout beekeeper named Isidoros Ţiminis, thought to place in one of his hives an icon of the Crucifixion of the Lord. Soon thereafter, when he opened the hive, he was amazed that the bees showed respect and devotion to the icon, having "embroidered" it in wax, yet leaving uncovered the face and body of the Lord. Since then, every spring, he puts into the hives icons of the Savior, the Virgin…

Icon of the Mother of God “of the Seven Arrows”

The “Seven Arrows” Icon of the Mother of God depicts the Virgin’s heart pierced by seven arrows. The original icon stood at the belltower stairway entrance of a church in honor of Holy Apostle John. It faced downwards, so people mistook it for a board and walked on it. Then a cripple had a vision that he would be healed by this icon. The icon was found and glorified; afterwards, the cripple healed. The icon worked miracles during a cholera epidemic. (Aug 13; Silver icon from Fiji, Ebay)

Many changes have probably already occurred in your local parishes to signify the Lenten season. This is a good opportunity to review the significance of the colors with your teens and children to enhance their experience and understanding.
