Nicobar Pigeons
First time I have ever seen these amazing birds. They looked like two blue power puffs. You can seen them in the Tampa Fl zoo. I think I was just lucky to find them both perched in this composition. They are Nicobar Pigeon, Caloenas nicobarica, is a pigeon which is a resident breeding bird on small uninhabited islands in Indonesia and the Nicobar Islands. Birds Archives - Save Our Green

They possess a series of strongly marked characters such as: (i) feather-clad, bipedal mostly flying vertebrates, (ii) jaw bones prolonged to form a beak or bill, (iii) forelimbs modified into wings etc.

Birds from the San Diego Zoo -- Part 4
There were a ton of aviaries within the three parks we visited (San Diego Zoo, The San Diego Zoo Wild Animal Park, and Sea World), which made for some great opportunities to photograph birds up close. It felt like there were flamingos (both African and Caribbean) everywhere, and it was hard to pick just one shot to include. This spoonbill was in the first exhibit we visited (of course it would be an aviary if I'm leading the way!) and you can see the sparkle of the early morning light in its…

These beautiful animals look as if they’ve been lifted from the pages of a mythical storybook, or transported from another world not like our own. But, in fact, these creatures are of this world. However, they have albinism, a congenital condition defined by partial or complete absence of pigment in the skin, hair, and eyes, the lack of...
Highland Cow, Isle of Lewis
We had already packed the cameras away into the back of the car after visiting our final stop for the day at Mol Foirsgeo Beach, but had to crack the cases open again when we came across a field with 3 adult and 3 child Highland Cows. The little guys were pretty funny to watch as they didn't quite know whether to stay lying down or get up and run away when they saw the cameras pointing in their direction. The older trio were much more at home in front of the lens and just lay there posing…
Celebuzz
Lately, my mom has been getting her kicks by emailing me photos of animals she thinks I'll find terrifying and asking me if I like them. Very funny. See, she knows all about my fear of birds, and I'm pretty sure she thought my slideshow on the scariest-looking animals on earth was the funniest thing I've ever written. Clearly, she's pushing me to do a followup by emailing me photos of weird looking beasts. Like this fluffy guy above. It's hard for me to imagine a more upsetting animal —…
Portraits of Birds Ruffling with Personality by Leila Jeffreys
To say photographer Leila Jeffreys had an eclectic upbringing would be a bit of an understatement. With a mother from India and a father from the Isle of Man, she has lived in Papua New Guinea, a house boat in Kashmir despite an ongoing war, and in an Indian village surrounded by buffaloes, mongoose
