Once sweet pea plants have three sets of leaves they should be pinched back to just above the first set of leaves. This produces a healthier, bushier sweet pea, instead of it going leggy. Place these sweet pea tops in water. They will produce roots after about three weeks and became additional sweet pea plants for you. You could then pinch the tips out of these new sweet pea plants and repeat the process.
