John of Damascus (c. 650-749) was born Yanah ibn Mansur ibn-Sarjun. c. 726, he left his influential government post, entered a monastery, and was ordained as a priest. A prolific writer, John's "best known work was a systematic presentation of the Greek theological tradition entitled Fount of Knowledge." Irvin & Sunquist, loc. 6151.

Saint John the Apostle, considered the author of the Fourth Gospel, "three" Epistles or New Testament letters (1 John, 2 John & 3 John). Feast day is the third day of Christmas Dec 27.
