Purple Prairie Clover is a herbaceous perennial native to North America. Scientifically known as Dalea purpurea, it will grow 1-3’ tall in full sun and well-draining soil. Blooming for six weeks in early to mid-Summer, it attracts numerous pollinators and is a food source for birds, rodents, and mammals. Purple Prairie Clover is a member of the Legume family and will readily fix nitrogen to the soil. It’s Botanical Name was originally Petalostemum purpureum.

A native Minnesota plant, it grows on prairie land. They grow 1 to 3 feet tall, and can be found through out the state. They bloom in the summer through the early fall. They like dry soil and a lot of sun. The leaves are kind of a blue green. They like to grow in clumps and when they all bloom it is very pretty.
