Polar climate

Discover the wonders of the polar climate and its unique ecosystem. Learn about the extreme conditions, diverse wildlife, and the impact of climate change on this fragile environment.
The polar ice caps and the Greenland ice sheet are melting six times faster than they were in the 1990s. The high melt rate corresponds to the “worst case scenario” model for global warming set out by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), and means that without sweeping curbs on greenhouse gas emissions, the planet will see a 17-centimetre rise in sea level in just 80 years, putting about 400 million people at risk of annual coastal flooding. Climate Change (Grade 5)- Blended Lesson Plan | OER Commons Wild Life, Animals Wild, Polar Bears Endangered, Endangered, Polar Bear Extinction, World Wild Life, Polar Bear, Arctic Sea, Polar Bear Facts

This lesson is designed for fifth grade students. It focuses on the “big idea” that humans depend on, are shaped by, and affect the earth’s climate. Students will first take an in-depth look into the earth’s climate, the roles humans play in climate changes, and the impacts the changing climate will have on humans. Then, they will propose solutions to minimize the consequences of climate change on our earth and its people.
