St Michael's Mount in Cornwall, UK. Historically, it is a Cornish counterpart of Mont-Saint-Michel in Normandy, France. The monastery founded by the Benedictines in the 12th century occupies the whole of the tidal island. You can reach it only at low tide, walking along a paved stone path running on the bottom of the bay. The ancient castle on top has since the mid-1600s been home to the St Aubyn family, who still live here today.
