Legend of Warsaw's Mermaid, beautiful creature singing for Vistula's River fishermen. Half-fish, half- women captured by an evil merchant, set free by a young fisherman's son. Greatful and free promised to defend them and the village- Warsaw.

The most famous mermaid statue, or at least the one which gets the most daily eyeballs on it, is the sculpture in Warsaw's Old Town Square. This iconic 'syrenka' (Polish for mermaid) was designed by Varsovian sculptor Konstanty Hegel and the original sculpture stood sentry on the square from 1855-19
