Embroidered photography

New York’s art world seems to be experiencing a newfound love affair with art made by hand — art that has, dare I say, “craft” in it.

Few creative things today are truly new — it's the work that builds on, pushes forward and continues to invent that gets noticed.

Chilean artist Jose Romussi adds embroidery to paper photographs to extracts a third dimension, and thus a nascent personality, out of an otherwise flat image. By doing so, Romussi opens space for alternative interpretations and methods of viewing a staged image.
