Leonardo Coccorante (Naples, November 8, 1680 - 1750) was an Italian painter known for his capricci depicting imaginary landscapes with ruins of classical architecture. The theatre was first built in the 6th century BCE. Modified and expanded over the centuries, it is the oldest Greek theatre and is the site where some of the most famous Greek plays from antiquity were first performed.
