This bookshelf is a mixture of antique books and antique objects, such as plates and busts and trays.  Notice how the art work is placed in a z formation:  right, left, right, which is a great place to start with an empty bookshelf.  Place one decorative piece at the top shelf on the right, then the next shelf, place it on the left, and so on, working down in a zig zag pattern.  Fill in with books around the objects.
