Black sheep squadron

Aces of VMF-214 'Black Sheep', 1st and 2nd tours. The famed "Black Sheep" squadron, fought above the Northern Solomons and Rabaul, from August, 1943 through January, 1944. They shot down 94 Japanese planes, and counted 8 aces, in addition to Boyington.

Baa Baa Black Sheep (later syndicated as Black Sheep Squadron) is a television series that aired on NBC from 1976 until 1978. Its premise was based on the experiences of United States Marine Corps aviator Pappy Boyington and his World War II "Black Sheep Squadron". The series was created and produced by Stephen J. Cannell. Greg "Pappy" Boyington is the commanding officer of VMF-214, a group of fighter pilots based in the Solomon Islands during World War II.

Gregory "Pappy" Boyington was a hero of WWII in the Pacific Theater, despite some personal flaws. He is one of just 28 Native Americans todate to receive the Congressional Medal of Honor.
