I anticipated this Badger's route and waited low and quietly as he trotted right past me at close range. You get a good sense of the size of those claws here. I'd hate to be on the receiving end of this in a fight!

Wisconsin Badgers

American badgers are largely nocturnal, but have been reported to be active during the day as well. They do not hibernate, but become less active in winter. A badger may spend much of the winter in cycles of torpor that last around 29 hours.
