Before it became John F Kennedy International Airport, it was known commonly as Idlewild Airport. The airport was renamed as tribute to the president after his assassination. Idlewild was known for some very creative and interesting architecture, such as the Pan Am Worldport, and the gigantic stained-glass façade for American Airlines. TWA’s Flight Center terminal is the only surviving building as JFK undergoes extensive remodeling. Idlewild was host to major airlines during the dawn of the passenger jet age, when flying was glamorous, and the varied architecture truly one of a kind. Artist's comment: I only ever got to visit New York once, but it was unforgettable. The idea for this artwork came about when I saw the repetitive offerings of flat/minimalist airport graphic posters by other designers. I chose to render a more challenging composition that had more personality to it.
