Holloway brooch, designed by Sylvia Pankhurst, 1909. Presented to all British suffragettes after imprisonment, the design was based on the portcullis symbol of the House of Commons, the arrow convict symbol is enamelled in the purple, white and green colours of the suffragettes. Purple stood for dignity, white for purity and green for hope.
