September 1944. This photo, by Eugeniusz Lokajski, was taken during the Warsaw Uprising of WWII, during which the Polish Resistance fought to take back their city from the Nazis. The Polish had expected help from the Russians and others, but they did not get it. Hence, the Polish Resistance was crushed, and some 16,000 Polish citizens killed. This photo depicts a girl with a mirror after the air raid at Złota street (near Zgoda street) in Warsaw.
