The female version of kontusz. 18th century, Sandomierz, Poland. Female kontusz (or kontusik) was firstly long, but throughout the 18th century it became shorter. It often had a fur lining to keep its owner warm during winter days. Note the buttons on the sleeves, which enabled rolling them in order to display the inner layers of the outfit. A typical accessory was a hat decorated with feathers.
