striped hyena [previously pinned by Mary Horn to one of my former boards, Miscellaneous Marvelous Mammals;] Hyenas are more closely related to felines although they look as if they are closer to canines.
Tale of the Tides - Deeble and Stone Natural History Films - Between the Lamu archipelago and Somalia is the wildest shore in East Africa - where baboons and hyaenas come to hunt crabs on the beach -named aardwolf elsewhere, or a hyena?
The hair of the striped hyena is long (shorter in summer than in winter), gray-white to yellowish brown on the sides, legs, and back, with black cross-stripes. Their stiff, black mane on the neck and back is erectile in anger and fear, giving the hyena a larger and more formidable aspect. There is a large black patch on the throat.
