St. Denis; the first Gothic choir constructed in 1140. The new design used ribbed vaulting which placed all the weight of the ceiling on the individual columns rather than the walls. This allowed the walls to be made almost entirely of glass. An interior full of light, as opposed to the mirk of the Romanesque design, was achieved. Absolutely inspiring!
