William H. Bonney Better Known As Billy The Kid

Pat F. Garrett 1850 - 1908. Called the most famous Westerner of his time. He was Rancher, Businessman and Peace Officer. In 1881, as sherriff of Lincoln County, he killed the notorious outlaw Billy the Kid. Pres. Teddy Roosevelt appointed him Collector of Customs at El Paso in 1901. On Feb 29, 1908, Garrett was murdered by a cowboy in a dispute near Las Cruces, N.M. Inset: a Colt .44 Frontier pistol, the model of pistol that Garrett used for when he shot to death Billy the Kid.

Extremely rare photo of Billy The Kid when captured at Stinking Springs, December 24th 1880. Pat Garrett is clearly recognisable extreme left and Bob Olinger is next to him. Billy is on the extreme right where a deputy aims a Colt revolver at Billy's head. One of Billy's compadres, Charlie Bowdre, had been killed in the encounter.
