In the upper jaw, after a tooth is lost, the sinuses may protrude into the area where the tooth was once present. This protrusion may make placement of a dental implant compromised. In this instance, the bone level is restored to the original level with a bone graft. This entails placement of bone material as the sinus is lifted--"sinus lift". After this is done, a proper sized dental implant can be placed.
