Volky 4x4: I assume this image is of a WWII army variant of the beetle. Normally the Beetle has a shift rod inclosed in the center tube of the floor pan. This image shows two rods outside of the tube. There is also a rag joint visible on a shaft near the tail of the shift housing. This shaft must go forward to a solidly mounted front differential. One shift rod is for shifting from two to four wheel drive. The other rod for selecting the proper gear.
