A cast Medieval bronze retainer's badge or mount showing the 'sun, moon and star' emblem, See Mitchiner, M., Medieval Pilgrim and Secular Badges, page 195 for similar pewter examples. The 'star and crescent' (sun, moon and star) symbols were a traditional badge of the Plantagenets during the period Richard I to Edward I and were also popular in the 14th century.
