Instagram Final Challenge Showcase - Fave 5

This is the final Instagram Challenge Showcase before Art of Mob closes its doors. As mentioned in the previous article I still have a few exciting interviews in the works and they will be posted in the upcoming weeks. It's fitting that this final challenge theme is Fave 5. Each participant was asked to tag their five favorite images from 2014. Rather than highlight only a few as in previous showcases, I decided for this final showcase I would select my favorite from each of the…

Mob Street No. 15

“Cities have always offered anonymity, variety, and conjunction, qualities best basked in by walking: one does not have to go into the bakery or the fortune-teller's, only to know that one might. A city always contains more than any inhabitant can know, and a great city always makes the unknown and the possible spurs to the imagination.” ― Rebecca Solnit, Wanderlust: A History of Walking For this week's showcase I asked the photographers whose works were selected to provide the name of the…

“The purpose of a storyteller is not to tell you how to think, but to give you questions to think upon.” ― Brandon Sanderson, The Way of Kings A good street photo tells a story or at least makes you ask the question "what's going on here?" Each of these images makes me want to know more. What's going on here? Who are they? Where are they going? What are they thinking? And, what happens next? Thank you to all who contribute to the Mob Street Flickr Group. If you enjoy street photography using…

“To see is to forget the name of the thing one sees.” ― Paul Valéry Curves are all around us - we have no further to look than our own bodies to see them. “One should really use the camera as though tomorrow you’d be stricken blind." ~ Dorothea Lange The quote by Dorothea Lange got me thinking. We don't have to go as far as being stricken blind to start those creative juices flowing. What if this was the last day you would have access to a camera. What or who would you photograph? A family member or good friend, a favorite scenic spot, a treasured family heirloom? Make a bucket list and start checking it off today! Below are highlighted images…

“If a photographer cares about the people before the lens and is compassionate, much is given. It is the photographer, not the camera, that is the instrument.” ~ Eve Arnold Welcome to the tenth edition of the Mob Street showcase. The other day my daughter-in-law asked me what the MOB stands for, so if you're new here, I should explain that Art of Mob is short for Art of Mobile Photography. Mobile photography refers to all images shot and edited entirely with a smartphone, tablet or other…

"I'm a voyeur. I say that with no embarrassment. If I could have a superpower, being invisible would be it, no question. I'm fascinated by human behavior; observing people and seeing how much story gets told without a lot of dialogue, and how much our brain fills in." ~Thomas Schlamme I wonder of we all realize how endlessly fascinating we are to one another. I could people watch all day. When I was younger, my Dad would often drive our family down to the L.A. Airport and we would sit in the…

Mob Street Photographer - Dariusz Sobiecki

When we think of street photography we often think of people frozen in motion on a crowded city street, however street photography is more than that. Wikipedia describes it: Street photography is photography that features the human condition within public places and does not necessitate the presence of a street or even the urban environment. Today's mob street feature showcases just such an image. The Work The Kite Whisperer The Photographer - Dariusz Sobiecki My name is Dariusz Sobiecki and…
