Buckhannon. a town of about 7,500 people, is the seat of Upshur County, WV along the Buckhannon River. It is is home to West Virginia Wesleyan College & the annual West Virginia Strawberry Festival, held every year during the third week of May. The town is in north-central West Virginia, about 110 miles northwest of the capital city of Charleston. Buckhannon was named by local white settlers for Buckongahelas, a renowned chief of the Lenape (Delaware) during the Border War.
