From Man Dee and Brandy - This is a TOUCH 5-senses activity. Using 10 different materials, ranging from feathers to sandpaper and everything in between. The children feel each piece of material and then had them glue them onto the hands. We asked the kids to describe the material and what if felt like to them. They used: sandpaper; fake leather; sponges; brillo pads.

The first time we read it, we usually focus on visualizing and record all the sensory images the author creates in our minds. I’ll usually make an anchor chart or give the kids their own graphic organizer to record the mental images they created with each one of the five senses. We have to stop after almost every page to record because Yolan paints such vivid pictures with her strong word choice and figurative language.
