60 years after Jasper Johns made the first of his Flag masterpieces, the American flag continues to be an irresistible subject for contemporary artists. Star Spangled Shadows, a screen print showing the stars and stripes reworked with a geometric Native American Navajo pattern, is a 2009 work by Brooklyn artists Patrick McNeil and Patrick Miller, who are more commonly recognized by their collaborative name FAILE.
