Math Anchor Charts

Here are some of my math anchor charts. Some Ideas I got from pinterest, some are just things that go with the curriculum, and others are things the kids need for the ISAT and can't seem to remember, ha ha. Here they are; all on the wall, above the high frequency word wall and vocabulary word wall. You gotta love Chicago Public Schools and the demand for word walls. But, the kids do actually put the words to use, if they are trained in how to use them. But... back to math. Mean, Median and…

My Mouth is a Volcano

In kindergarten we read My Mouth is a Volcano written by Julia Cook. Toward the beginning of the year we read another story about interrupting (see post here) but it's always a good reminder to reinforce appropriate social skills. Students enjoy this book and end up laughing at the predictable sequence that occurs each time he has a thought - words pop into his head, slide down his tongue, rumble in his tummy, get pushed by his tongue and erupt! It is only when he is interrupted by others…

Counting in Kinder

Counting is one of those skills that seems so simple, but it's so incredibly important! It's truly foundational in nature because our kids need to know how to count in order to learn to add/subtract and eventually multiply/divide! In my normal grown up life, I count every day. I'm also guilty of counting too fast and having to count the same thing 3 or 4 times. Many of our kids come to us with the ability to rote count... maybe to 10... maybe to 100. But even those amazing rote counters can…

In Treasures this week we are learning about How To Writings. Therefore, in honor of Halloween I decided to create a How To Writing based upon the story "Scaredy- Cat, Splat!"
